A Security Industry Authority (SIA) approved qualification that enables a person to gain an SIA licence, to work in licensed premises (pubs and clubs) and/or as a security officer for general guarding services.

Part 1 - The Roles and Responsibilities of Door Supervisors

Aim:
• To provide the core knowledge and understanding candidates will need in order to work on the Doors and comply with the requirements of the SIA.

Objectives:
• To fulfil the SIA training standards
• To enable candidates to do the job fairly, confidently, competently, and, according to the law.
• To give customers and employers more confidence in the qualified Door Supervisor’s ability to create a better experience in a safe environment.
• To bring a greater element of professionalism to the job and the Industry.

Duration:
• Minimum 15 GLH

Part 2 – Conflict Management for Door Supervisors

Aim:
• To ensure that Door Supervisors have the appropriate communication skills and knowledge of conflict management to work on the Doors competently, and, thereby, comply with the standards required by the SIA.

Objectives:
• To fulfil the SIA training standards for communication skills and conflict management.
• To enable candidates to do the job fairly, safely, confidently, competently, and, according to the law.
• To give customers and employers more confidence in the qualified Door Supervisor’s ability to create a better experience in a safe environment
• To bring a greater element of professionalism to the job and the industry.

Duration:
• Minimum 15 GLH

Assessment:
• By observation and questioning on the course
• Externally marked multi-choice question paper lasting 1 hour
• N.B. Candidates must provide a photograph, relevant identity, and, if applicable, evidence of an exemption (APL), each time they sit an external assessment i.e. for both units 1 and 2 and, any re-sits.

NVQ equivalence:
• Level 2 NQF

Progression:
• Laterally to Event Stewarding, Vehicle Immobilisation*, Security Guarding*, CCTV*, CVIT*
• NVQs in Crowd Management and the Security Industry
• Incrementally to Level 3 Close Protection* and new courses e.g. Head Door Supervisor / Team Leader are proposed
• Further to Handcuff application, Physical Intervention, First Aid
• Basic and Key skills

Support and development:
• Accreditation of Prior Experience will be applied using the currently recognised SIA exemptions as published
• Additional Learning Support is available for those identified as requiring it on the course
• Basic skills courses available for those needing assistance in order to meet the standards pre-enrolment
